Why cycle?
Its good for general and in particular cardio vascular health, its good for controlling hyper tension, its an excellent tool to control mood swings too. You also make new friends when you spend 4/5hrs on the road with someone! Research also shows it lowers your risk of Dementia/Alzheimer's as it strengthens your cognitive skills, imagine all the data your are processing while cycling! And finally, your ability to absorb oxygen via your lungs, also known as VO2max is the biggest single predictor of longevity. So get on your bike and turn those pedals. And if you do it for a good cause like this team, even better!
Five Guys on the road
Not the burger chain but five guys on their bikes trying on the longest one-day ride of their cycling "careers". This is no walk in the park but a ride from the famous, and very hilly, Peak District to London for a great cause, Ambitious about Autism. Anyone that have experienced this condition up and close will know how unsettling, and frankly scary, it is. We must all do our, even miniscule, part to help and so we set off at 5am on June 28th to ride 350km to end up in London, hopefully before midnight. All under the great leadership of Simon Mottram and Rapha. One of us knows how to ride a bike fast, one is funny and can entertain the group all day long (as possibly the rest of the peloton if we can keep up), one makes do with grit and determination, one know a lot about nutrition (mostly in the shape of good food and wine) and one knows how to fix a puncture in 3 mins flat (he could be very busy on the day!). Together we think that HardWorkistheOnlyWork and we do this to help! Now we just have to get in shape!!!!!!Please help us help Ambitious about Autism. Any and all donations are received with gratitude and humility. Nothing is too small and encouraging comments are very welcome.
Please support our Ambitious challenge!
On Sunday 28 June 2026 we will ride 220 miles in a single day from Manchester to London. A test of endurance, a journey that demands everything, and gives back more.
We are taking on the Ambitious 220 Challenge to raise funds for Ambitious about Autism, the national charity standing with autistic children and young people.
Too often autistic young people are unheard, unsupported, or shut out of opportunities. That can change. Every mile and every turn of the pedals helps create a world where autistic children and young people are accepted for who they are and given the chance to realise their ambitions.
This is more than a ride. This has purpose.
If you can, please consider donating to our page and join us in standing with autistic children and young people.
