This academic year has been the most challenging for my autistic son and us as a family.

My post from his first day back at school back in September -

For some children back to school is hell, no photo by the door and being dragged there whilst negotiating anything and everything to get them through the gate. We have a very sad and distressed boy today, he’s not had a good day, first day back and he receives a behaviour point because he can’t deal with having all new teachers that he doesn’t know, the day started at 10.45, the lessons he doesn’t attend are in his timetable. He responds in away that is seen as ‘naughty’, whilst his linguistic skills and vocabulary are fantastic he can’t communicate when sad and unregulated. A lack of support and understanding only fuels this…. Let’s hope he can be moved to a more nurturing environment, a long old challenge with the LEA to get him into a provision that can meet his EHCP needs. Until then the struggle is real for him and us and his brother (not to mention our rubbish broadband bandwidth!!!)
