Please support my Ambitious challenge!

On Sunday 28 June 2026 I will ride 220 miles in a single day from Manchester to London. A test of endurance, a journey that demands everything, and gives back more.

I am taking on the Ambitious 220 Challenge to raise funds for Ambitious about Autism, the national charity standing with autistic children and young people.

Too often autistic young people are unheard, unsupported, or shut out of opportunities. That can change. Every mile and every turn of the pedals helps create a world where autistic children and young people are accepted for who they are and given the chance to realise their ambitions.

This is more than a ride. This has purpose.

If you can, please consider donating to my page and join me in standing with autistic children and young people.

My Updates

Back in training

Tuesday 19th May
After 2 weeks Scotland, training has resumed. Couple of nice outdoor rides, one of them a long ride to mum on Mother's Day. Last couple of days, I trained indoors due to the rainy weather. With Hardwell on the airpods, it is do-able but nothing beats an outdoor ride.
This weekend a 2-day ride is planned: 2x 125-150 km. It’s a good test case where the legs and body are at this moment. :-)

150k milestone ride completed

Monday 20th Apr
Yesterday I had scheduled a 150k non-stop milestone ride to see how everything was holding up. Though last week I was suffering a bit from some sort of mild virus, it was all fine after Fri.
Weather was fantastic and the route brought me to some new scenic parts of Brabant.
The legs (and butt 😁) still felt good afterwards but the neck had more issues.
In summary confidence is growing that I can make it on 28 June 😅.

Spring weekend TRIOSS

Tuesday 14th Apr
Happy Spring everyone ! Hope everyone is enjoying the longer days and better weather :-)

Last weekend I joined my Trioss buddies to kickoff the new season in Vollenhove. Great company, good vibes and fantastic weather made it an excellent training weekend where I managed to put in quite a few kilometers: Fri 54km, Sat 122km and Sun 97km. My legs were recovering pretty fast after each ride which gave a confidence boost for 28 June.
Slowly but surely the distances per week will increase now but most important will be to continue with strength and conditioning exercises to prepare the entire body for a long day in the saddle :-)
Keep you posted !

A nice example why I’m cycling for Ambitious

Tuesday 14th Apr
Hi everyone,
This video shows a great example how technology can make a gigantic difference for people with autism and why it is necessary to keep supporting Ambitious about autism. This is why I’m cycling on 28 June and why everyone is thankful for your support !

Hope you’ll enjoy it !

Hi all
The donations keep coming jn. Thank you so much. It’s definitely heartwarming and much appreciated by the charity as it will help a lot of children.

Training is going well. Since I changed job and travel by train instead of car, my hip issues seem to have disappeared..luckily 😁.
Last Sunday it was great weather and did a surprising well endurance ride: keeping the heart rate in Z2 but doing an average speed of 29kph over 102 km.
Things are moving in the right direction.
Now it’s a matter of staying in one piece. 😅

Carnaval and wintershoes

Friday 20th Feb
Last Sunday I went out on the ‘gravelbike’ to test my new wintershoes (which I should have bought years ago 😅). Nice sunny day but chilly (1degC) and a bit of wind. A good day to put in 95k with a few rolling hills. But I forgot that it was carnaval weekend so busy town centers throughout. It was good fun and good to experience that there were no issues staying in the saddle for 3,5 hrs…

Training has started

Sunday 18th Jan
A wise person once said to me that the best day to start training was yesterday. Therefore end of last year I climbed on the turbo and started doing miles on Rouvy. Also some nice outdoor gravel rides. In this period is focused on putting in the miles and to get FTP back to the old level.
This week has been terrible as Mr. Flu had knocked on my door. 4 days of suffering but thankfully that chapter is closed so looking forward to a new week of training.

Welcome message

Saturday 20th Dec
Ho everyone,
Many thanks for showing interest in my fundraiserpage. I feel priviliged that I can raise money for this fantastic charity.
People with autism deserve the support and tools they need to be successful in achieving their life goals. Especially for children and young adults, they need specialised help to allow them to learn while dealing with their disability.
Therefore Ambitious about Autism is such a great foundation.

I have 6 months of endurance training ahead of me. Being fifty years old, it also means a lot of stretching and core stability to make sure all muscles can deal with this challenge. But since I love cycling, it’s a challenge I’m keen to accept. And it will be worth it.

Many thanks for your kind donation and I will keep you updated via this blog !
