Why I’m Taking on M2L 2026 in support of Ambitious About Autism
Thursday 2nd OctThis challenge is close to home for me. My little boy, Ralph, is 4 and autistic. His diagnosis has brought so much love and joy into our lives, but also many barriers, especially when it comes to schooling and dealing with local authorities.
Unless you live it, it is hard to understand. Even with close friends, it has sometimes created distance. Things most families take for granted, such as going out for a meal, attending a party, or booking a holiday, can feel overwhelming. The unknown is frightening, and often we retreat back to Ralph’s safe space at home.
Families like ours need more help and support, not only to fight the system but simply to get by day to day. That is why I have signed up for this ride in support of Ambitious about Autism, a charity that works tirelessly to help autistic children, young people and their families.
On June 28th I will attempt to cycle 220 miles from Manchester to London in one day. I have never even been on a road bike before, so I have eight months to prepare. A lot of the time I feel helpless, but this is something I can do: to raise money, to raise awareness, and to support families who desperately need it.
I also want to acknowledge my wife, who is the rock behind Ralph. She puts herself through hell to make sure our little boy has everything he needs. I know she is not alone in this. There are countless parents doing the same, and my hat goes off to every single one of them.
I believe in change, and I believe we can make a difference together. Please support me if you can.
